Cooperative Learning Method

This book is designed with the purpose of boosting learners' performance in EFL in Cote d'Ivoire and elsewhere in non-native settings of francophone Africa. The cooperative learning model (CLM) as deeply explained here has a threefold dimension (understanding, implementation and experimentation) with regard to a specific language. The five principles of the method (positive interdependence, individual accountability, face-to-face interaction, collaborative skills, and group possessing) coupled with goals (among which students' motivation, self-esteem, social and learning skills development, critical thinking promotion) are in accordance with field results arrived at in Cote d'Ivoire by the author of this precious volume. The cooperative learning model is thus a powerful and inspiring approach for both 
EFL teachers and language education authorities.

In this book(let), Edgarde Mouhon Ahounou establishes that success in language learning is rooted in the teaching method. On the basis of such articulation, she argues that the methods so far used in the teaching of the English language in Cote d'Ivoire have failed to produce the desired results as evident in the poor performance of learners in official examinations over the years. To her, the solution lies in Cooperative Leaming Method (CLM), a new learning method that encourages group work among learners, which has been tested, and its effectiveness as well as efficiency proven. Indeed, Mouhon succeeds to lay a foundation for a new vision, dimension and perspective in the teaching of the English language in particular and other subjects in general, in Cote d'Ivoire and elsewhere applicable.

Edgarde Mouhon Ahounou was born in Tiassale, Cote d'Ivoire. She is Assistant Lecturer of English Language in Ecole Normale Superieure d'Abidjan. Mouhon holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, Master's Degree and Professional Diploma in Science of Education, with specialisation in Instructional Leadership, option, Learning Style, from St John University of New York. She also backs a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Yaounde I, Cameroon. Mouhon's areas of research amongst others, include, English Language Teaching Methods in EFL Context, Cooperative Learning, Challenges in English language Teaching and Learning. She has written extensively in her area of specialization and has published in several scientific journals. She recently published an article entitled «Evaluating the Impact of the Cooperative Learning of English in Cote d'Ivoire». (see Cameroon Journal of Studies In the Commonwealth, 2021). Mouhon is married and has kids.
